Capital Grants

When the capital grant scheme re-opened in July 2025 it was subject to some changes. Firstly, you could only make one application per year (per SBI) and secondly there were caps on some of the items:

  • Air Quality £25,000 limit (such as automatic slurry scrapers, low emission flooring)

  • Boundaries, Trees & Orchards £35,000 limit (such as boundary restoration works (hedge laying, coppicing, or gapping up), tree surgery, planting new hedges/banks)

  • Water Quality £25,000 limit (such as fencing, roofing over, concreting, water troughs and pipework)

  • Natural Flood Managements £25,000 limit (such as leaky dams)

  • Assessments - No cap (such as a wildfire checklist)

  • Improvements - No cap (such as education access visits)

The scheme closed a month later when the government announced that all the available funding for the 2025 round had been allocated. That said, the capital grant scheme will, we believe, open for another round of funding in 2026. It is never too soon to start the conversation.

If you are interested in a capital grant here are some steps to consider:

  1. Start planning your works.  Either make a list or mark on a map

  2. Will your project require Catchment Sensitive Farming approval?  If so, consider making early contact with your CSF adviser to help get ahead

  3. One application per year. You will only be able to submit one capital application per year

  4. Prioritise.  The spending caps will limit how much can be included in a single application

  5. Get in touch.  If we can help with any of the above, or if you would like to request a visit once the scheme is open, please call the office.
